DPM 2012 R2 - DPM CPWrapper Services fails to start RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 4 2012 non-R2 servers running DPM 2012 R2 version 4.2.1273.

All 4 systems are unable to start the DPM CPWrapper service. I'm in the process of trying to enable certificate authentication, and can't even get started, because the CPWrapper service can't start. Is there any necessary configuration with DPM to configure this service?

The error message stated starting the service is - Error 1503: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. It is set to automatic for its start setting.

Then, two service control manager service logs stating A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the DPM CPWrapper Service service to connect. &

The DPM CPWrapper Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Finally, -- a 999 DPM error. (See end)

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi,

The service will be set to start after you install the certificate on the DPM Server and run through all the commands to enable Certificate based authentication.

Set up protection with certificate authentication

Did you complete all the steps outlined above ?

  • Hi Mike,

As I was writing out a response, and double checking my work - I figured it out. I'm using ISE, and copy/paste is working just fine. Output is normal. When I copied my command from ISE into a normal shell - a few extra characters showed up.

Its the extra characters at the beginning of the thumbprint from the original copy paste out of the certificate mmc. It showed up as ???  -- which is why the command couldn't find the thumbprint.

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards,

    Kyle
