Can you use SBA for Head office Redundancy RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Was just thinking out loud and maybe this is already answered somewhere else...Is it possible or advisable to use a dedicated SBA (Physical Server) as redundancy to ensure voice services continue if the Virtual infrastructure fails ? Is it possible or is there something I am missing. Question is for small sites with only 100 users or so.

    Thanks in Advance

  • You can do this for Voice Services only.

If you create a Branch Site in Lync Topology you can add an SBA that is physically located in the same location as the head office and move users on the SBA.  When the pool is not available you will loose features but you will have the Voice features available.

  • Hi,

Since A Survivable Branch Appliance is a third-party device that includes a blade server running the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system, Lync Server 2013 Registrar, Mediation Server software, and a PSTN gateway, all in a single appliance chassis, it is supported for using this SBA (PSTN gateway) in both the main pool and the SBA.

  • Fantastic thanks for the info. Assuming the SBA is also a PSTN gateway can you also use this same box for services for both the Main Pool and the SBA. i.e. only a single gateway (the SBA) used by the Head office FE pool and also the SBA when if Voice services only mode assuming some failure occurred in the rest of the environment.

    Thanks again.
