Using Today's Date in a SharePoint Calculated Column Formula RRS feed

    Hello Everyone,

    I need to add a SharePoint calculated column that use today's date in the formula. When trying to add [today] in the formula, SharePoint returns an error about not allowing the use of "volatile functions". Are there any workarounds to be able to use the today's date in a calculated field formula. I am using SharePoint 2007 and creating a dummy column called Today (a solution that is all over the web) does not work for me. Any other suggestions?

    Hi

    You have to delete the column Today after creating the calculated column. it worked for me.

    steps:

    1. create a dummy column "Today" of type "Single line of text"

    2. Create a calculated column with formula =[Today]

    3. delete Today column

    4. Now see the values on the list.

    This doesn't work. It's never worked. The OP said as much.

    Check on your list tomorrow and see that [Today] hasn't been updated so is still showing old dates.

    In the above article there are links to some workarounds such as Dessies scheduled job that forces an update of the list or Christophes method for calculating "Due in x days" type fields dynamically client side using JavaScript.
