I want to upgrade from XP(32 bit) to Win 8 Pro(64 bit). I am running XP 32bit. Recently I bought 64 bit Intel mother board and processor, and installed XP (32 bit). Can I get Win 8 Pro 64 bit, when I go to upgrade on line?
You must be running Windows XP with SP3, Vista, or Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 8 by using Windows Upgrade Assistant, but you can't upgrade to different platform (32-bit to 64-bit). Here's the FAQ taken from: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ID/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
Q: Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 8?
A: Yes, but you can't do this using Upgrade Assistant. If your PC has a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) but is currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install a 64-bit version of Windows 8, but you'll need to buy Windows 8 as a DVD. You
also won't be able to keep any files, settings, or apps when you upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit version.
