Outlook Anywhere password prompt with Basic Authentication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

Is there any way to prevent constant password prompt in Outlook 2003 or 2007 configured with RCP over HTTPS.

In Outlook client basic authentication is enabled. RPC over HTTPS is published by Forefront server that has also Basic authentication enabled.

Outlook 2010 dont have this problem. All needed directories in CAS iis support Basic authentication.

Thank You for help in advance

  • Hi,

When using Outlook Anywhere, if the Basic Authentication is used, you will be prompted for the user’s password. The solution to stopping the password prompt is to use NTLM on both Client Access Server and Client side.

Please have a look of below thread for related issue. Its for Exchage 2007 but same example for RPC pver HTTPS.

  • Hi Ikariux,

It is because Outlook 2010 use “Negotiate Authentication” as default.

If you use “Kerberos Password Authentication”, I think Outlook 2010 will be same as Outlook 2003 and  Outlook 2007.

  • For NTLM i have to configure different listener in Forefront TMG 2010 on dedicated IP. I cant do that at the moment.

Maybe there is any workaround this problem? Why Outlook 2010 does not prompt for password and Outlook 2007 does?
