DPM 2016 LTO-7 tape backup performance expectations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am using DPM 2016 with a Quantum Superloader 3 and LTO-7 Tapes. The short term storage is on a filer, mounted via iSCSI.

Now the marketing boasts that the tape drive is capable 1.08 TB/HR. This is of course not possible in my scenario because the storage is not fast enough for that. Still the performance seems to be quite slow. At the moment I need about 4-5 days to write about 8 tb compressed to tape and I see longer times when the storage bandwidth is more or less at idle load.

Now I am wondering if I should be expecting faster backups. If I do, I need to investigate further where the bottleneck is. If you have any hints that would be appreciated as well.
