User Profile initialization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am going to create application running under SharePoint 2010,and want to use active directory as source of user information such as user name, first name ,last name, MANAGER name, DEPARTMENT name , IsActice …etc.

I want all these information to be accessible to SharePoint, I read about User Profile that it store user information from Active Directory or other directory service and I can add new properties to user profile and map it to active directory, and the user profile information can be scheduled to sync with AD, and I can use UserProfileManager to retrieve user profile properties.

But, I noticed the user profile is created when end user accesses his profile by clicking on My profile, otherwise the user profile for this end user will not be created.

My question is how can I make creation of a user profile automatically and to be synchronized with AD without any intervention by end user or site administrator. In other words, the user profile must be created when the user is added to group or on first login SharePoint.

    Regards

    Suhaib

  • If you setup synchronization, the profiles are created automatically.  The site collection that hosts their MySite is provisioned the first time they click that, but the profile is already there.

    Thanks Mike,

"If you setup synchronization, the profiles are created automatically."

does this mean that the profile information will be populated also from AD?

  • If you sync with AD, then yes it will populate the profile information with any fields that are mapped to the AD source.
