You do not have permission to do that RRS feed

  • Question

  • Most of the time when I try and download something vista will let me down load it but when it goes to save or run it comes back with a message 'you do not have permission to do that'. It offers some suggestions that I am not authorized also. Any help is appreaciated.

  • Go to Control Panel, in Users, check User Access Contol (UAC) tool and try to disable/enable it so that you get a prompt for permissions to continue command or cancel it. This tool is so helpful for all users so that important commands not to executed silently (due to a hacker or backdoor or virus...etc).

    Good luck

  • stopping UAC is not the answers to everything.

This is a premission issues are you administartor, or a standard user ?

is your computer connected to a domain ?

If so has the administrator applied group polices to block downloads ?

where are you trying to save your data ?

What Build are you using ?

    Hello ;

    I have similar problems.
I want to download something (forex: winamp)
Vista is strarting to download file to temp directory after It has finishes downloading vista is trying to move file to the location which I chose but then there is an error message appears "Access Denied"

My user is in the administrator group , my user ownes the disk ,UAC is active and I'm using Windows Vista Business Edition.
My computer is not at a domain.
I have two diskes and my user both ownes them. And also my user has full control at both disks.

I also have a problem when I'm trying to run any setup (but not all of them)
The problem is If I'm trying to install a program to "C:\Program Files\App_Name"  again I have an "Access Denied" error. If I install program to "D:\Program Files\App_Name" (different disk) then setup is running normally. (Just at the end of setup (when setup is trying to register file types) again I'm getting an "Access Denied" error. But program works fine (I'm manuelly register file types with open with...))

    Thank You All.

  • I, too, have a similar problem.

I did a clean install of Vista on my former XP box (upgrade caused problems). I had some encrypted files that I now cannot access - apparantly I do not have permission.

I have admin rights; it is the same machine; I am using the same username and pw as before. When I try to access the files, I get a message saying I need permisson. How do I give myself permission? I would be happy to enter a pw or something there was a place to do that.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • You need to take ownership of these files first.

  • Already have ownership.  I think I found what my particular problem is.  It has something to do with EFS (Encrypted File System.)  If you don't have the proper "keys" you still can't open the files even if you do own them.  And since I can't successfully go back to my previous version of Windows where they were encrypted (at least I don't think I can, long story), all those files are "lost" until I figure out a way to hack them. Sad
