Alternate URL for PWA RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is there a way to set up alternate url for the PWA homepage?  Reason I ask is that the current domain is quite long (not my choice nor can I change it, I have to use it).  I thought that's what Alternate Access Mappings was used for but I can't specify the PWA homepage, for example http://xyz/pwa, I can only put http://xyz, which goes to a sharepoint site http://xyz/sitepages/home.aspx. Am I using AAM incorrectly?  Should I be able to map multiple URL's of my choosing to our PWA homepage?

If not, is there any other solutions?

    Thanks,

    André

  • Hello,

Yes you can use Alternate Access Mappings for the PWA site, these are set up for the web application so if you set it up for the web application hosting the PWA site collection PWA will work on the new URL too.

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your reply!

THat's the impression that I was under too, but I just can't get it to work.  I'm creating the AAM's under SharePoint - 80, which is the web application hosting the PWA site (Central Admin -> Manage Service Applications -> Project Server Service Applications is where I see SharePoint - 80 with http://xyz/pwa).

I tried creating 2 AAM's under SharePoint - 80, one of which goes nowhere (Internet Explorer cannot display the website error and the other goes to a SharePoint site.  I feel like I'm missing an easy step somewhere..

    THanks,

    André

  • Sorry Paul, I was under the impression that the DNS change had been made but was just told that in fact it had not been completed...thanks for your time!

  • Hi Paul,

Sorry to bug you again but the DNS change is 100% complete (abc.domain points to FQDN of pwa server) and I'm still running into the same issue, the url (http://abc) goes to a SharePoint site http://xyz/sitepages/home.aspx instead of the desired http://xyz/pwa, which is our main pwa site.  If I browse to http://xyz, it also goes to that SharePoint site http://xyz/sitepages/home.aspx.

I went to Manage Web Applications and it shows SharePoint - 80  http://xyz.  Project Server Service Applications is where I see SharePoint - 80 with http://xyz/pwa.

I have AAM set up as http://abc (internal)   http://xyz (public).

    Am I still missing something?

    Thanks,

    André

  • Hello,

So for the new URL which I think is http://abc to get to PWA just type http://abc/pwa and PWA should load?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Well I feel like an idiot!  I expected it to automagically go to /pwa and didn't even think of typing it out...it works now...thanks for all of your help!
