SQL Server service intermittently can't start with Windows 10 Pro x64 build 10586 (on VMWare 11) RRS feed

  • Question

  • My SQL Server 2012 Express service intermittently can't start with Windows 10 Pro x64 build 10586 (on VMWare 11).
It seems that the starting is timeout (30000 milliseconds), I have never seen this problem on the previous Windows versions.

    I have two questions:
Question #1: Is there any solution to fix it (we couldn't change the service start timeout setting due to our policy)?
Question #2: Is it the problem of Windows 10?

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Tu

  • It is good idea to report this to VMware's support and ask them to reproduce this.

Have a look at log files and you might find some useful information there.

  • Have you tried updating VMware?

Try setup this on Hyper-V (just for test) and see if problem reproduces.

Have you installed the latest build in Windows 10?

  • Thanks for your help.

My VMWare is VMware® Workstation, 11.1.3 build-3206955 that official supports Windows 10.
I am using Windows 10 build 10586 that is the lasted release.

The SQL service starting isn't always failed, sometime it started, sometime didn't.
It seems that the service started more frequently if I increase the VM resource (RAM and CPU)

It's difficult but I will try on Hyper-V

I am still stuck with it. Please help!
