  • Question

  • Dears,

I have implemented AD MP... I came to the optional configurations section, and I had below doubts if some one can help on it to let me know how to drive into it:

    1. Enable the AgentProxySetting on All Domain Controllers: in the guide they metioned to enable: "Allow
this agent to act as a proxy and discover managed objects on other computers
" Actually I did not find this check box in SCOM 2012, so how to do it in scom 2012?
    2. Collecting Replication Performance Data: I have 3 DCs in one only AD Site, so:

is it useful to configure this option and why?

if yes, then what should be my source group and target group?

    1. Client Monitoring: actually I do not have Exchange, I only have few SQL servers, SCOM and SCCM and 3rd party Apps, so is it useful to use it? and why?
    2. Enabling Agent-Only Discovery: since I have 3 DCs in 1 site, then, is it useful to use this settings? and why?

  • If there are only 3 DC's then its probably just as easy to enable the proxy setting manually see the following:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662300.aspx

In terms of the value the pack would add - this will give you visibility of replication performance within your single site (intra-site) and at the very least allow you to monitor for performance bottle-necks, it will also allow you to monitor the FSMO roles and critical sevices hosted on your DC's.

Sorry I may have mis-understood your question slightly - in terms of replication you may still want to monitor intra-site replication to make sure it's functioning as expected. See the following:

    For an official MS view on what should be monitored take a look at the Operations guide which shows what (and how frequently) certain aspect of AD should be checked;

  • Hi,

We can use powershell command to enbale agent act as a proxy, the below command is used to get all agents where proxy is set to disabled and then enable them:

    Get-SCOMAgent | where {$_.ProxyingEnabled.Value -eq $False} | Enable-SCOMAgentProxy

Please also go through the below link regarding to this issue:

Automate Setting Allow Agent to Act as Proxy on SCOM Agents

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/markmanty/archive/2012/02/02/automate-setting-allow-agent-to-act-as-proxy-on-scom-agents.aspx

Whether to enable Replication monitoring performance collection depends on your need. Replication monitoring performance collection is not enabled by default because the performance reduction can be significant if replication data is collected automatically for every domain controller, hope the below article be helpful for you:

  • Hi Yan,

1st link is to enable agent proxy on all servers, actually I need to do it in Auto way on all DCs as MP guide suggest, so how to do it?

Regarding enable Replication monitoring performance collection , well I need to know for my case if it is good or not, as I said, I only have 1 site with 3 DCs, so how it will be useful?

    • What will be the source DC?
    • Which shall be the target DCs?

    Thanks
