How to digitally sign a package? RRS feed

  •

    Hi,

I did all the step mentioned in this MSFT article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137947.aspx Yet I can not sign a package using a certificate.

      1. In Business Intelligence Development Studio, open the Integration Services project that contains the package you want to work with.

      2. In Solution Explorer, double-click the package to open it.

      3. In SSIS Designer, on the SSIS menu, click Digital Signing.

      4. In the Digital Signing dialog box, click Sign.

      5. The Select Certificate dialog box, select a certificate.

      6. Optionally, click View Certificate to view certificate information.

      7. Click OK to close the Select a Certificate dialog box.

      8. Click OK to close the Digital Signing dialog box.

      9. To save the updated package, click Save Selected Items on the File menu.

I don't see a certificate to select after following the article's steps. Can some one please shed some light on this?

    Thanks,

  • You need to have a code signing certificate available to select. Check out this page (which was referenced from the link you shared in your original post) for details: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537361.aspx

Digital certificates are a pretty complex topic, so taking the time to understand the types of certificates, certificate authorities and so on now will save you lots of headaches later on.

  • For testing and internal use, download the makecert tool from Microsoft. It allows you to create self-signed certificates. The links above are good info.
