AppV 5 applications fail to install via SCCM (1602) - Error 0x800040005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have deployed a selection of AppV 5 applications to 'All Users' as 'Available' via SCCM.

For the majority of users this works well.  The users can select the apps they want from the Software Center and install them.

However for some users this does not work, the installs fail.  These errors can be seen in AppDiscovery.log...

On the same PC with the same user we can manually install the AppV 5 applications using Powershell, the install only fails when the install is being performed by SCCM.

The issue sometimes follows the user to another PC, but sometimes does not.

We are at a total loss as to why SCCM is unable to install the applications.  Any assistance appreciated.

  • Do you see a folder: 38d71462-a445-44f6-bf87-81135c80797e in the App-V package store? C:\ProgramData\App-V

I wonder because it looks like the query is trying to detect the presence of the packageid and versioned

Are you using any UEM tool, like AppSense or RES?

  • Interestingly yes the folder is there.  Some of the files in the folder have the grey cross that you see when a file is unavailable in offline files.  They don't have the same cross on a PC on which the app is loading.

    No UEM tool in use.

  • Hello,

    The error is not relating to running the powershell commands but rather the verification if the app is installed;

WMI Query [Select * from AppvClientApplication where PackageId ="38d71462-a445-44f6-bf87-81135c80797e" and PackageVersionId="8ca4d0d9-adc2-4a8c-9f46-558ba927342e"] failed, error 80004005

You can manually run this WMI-query and see what the output is. In addition it could be good to verify if the PkgID and PackageVersionID matches the package ID.

  • Hello, I've seen this error deploying through SCCM. I sequenced notepad ++ but could not get it to deploy through SCCM. I have had to use powershell to deploy notepad++. Have you tried to publish the application using Powershell?

Ha, sorry just seen you are deploying Notepad++. I can confirm the same problem.

  • It is not just Notepad++ we have the error with but a number of AppV 5 packages.  Good to know we are not alone in seeing this error, although a shame you do not know the solution.

    Installation by Powershell works fine.

  • The only response I got on that thread was to try here - hence this thread.

  • Might be an incorrect hunch but do the apps in question contain special characters in the name? I tend to name Notepad++ : NotepadPlusPlus to avoid issues with deployment tools or other tools which work with the path and filename.
