resetting bios for sata drives can i reinstall vista using backup copy? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having slow file copy problems/ SATA HDD set to IDE mode Enhanced with AHCI controller : I have posted questions but had no real answers that help: it maybe that I need to reinstall and change the current setting in BIOS from IDE Enhanced with AHCI controller mode.....so my new question is this:
To reset the BIOS to use SATA with AHCI Raid ( raid ready but not installed)  can I change the settings in BIOs and then reinstall Vista from the complete PC backup I have created or will it interfere with the new BIOS settings?
My current setup shows in Device Manager
    Storage conrollers>Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
    System devices> Intel(R) ICH9 Family SMBus Controller - 2930
hope this is the right info.

my specs; Asus P5E3 Premium Mobo. Vista ultimate 32bit/4GB DDR3 RAM/Intel Quad Core Q9550 2.83GHz
2 X 750GB WD SATA HDD (not in raid)

Hi James, could you let me know the tool that you use to make the complete PC backup? Do you mean ghost or the Windows Vista built-in function?
