SQL VM - Decrease quantity of Virtual CPU assigned

    Question

  • Hi -

    For the following scenario:

    Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 R2 Host

VM running Server 2012 R2 with SQL 2012 (non-R2) installed.

Is it possible to decrease the number of virtual CPU assigned to the Hyper-V VM from 4 to 2?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Strongbad2,

Technically, it is possibly for a VM.

But I'm not sure if there would be any effect on SQL application.

You may post in SQL forum to see if anyone have tested the operation before.

    Best Regards,

    Leo

As Leo says, yes it is possible.  Open the settings for the VM and change the value.

But, as Leo says, it may impact the performance.
