AD RMS - File monitoring RRS feed

  • Hello, I have a question.

    I have a text files which i need to monitor. I need to log every change to those files ( who change it and what he change ).

    Can AD RMS do such a thing ?\

  • Not really on it's own.  You could monitor who gets a Use License for the file, but if the user has change rights, they could save the file to another name or location.

    What you may want to do is locate the file on SharePoint with the Document Library Rights Protected.
    Anyone who consumes the document will get rights only for them, so they can't share (sideload) and that licnse request will be logged.

    Editing again may be the tricky part. I'm not sure if you can prevent the download of a document in Sharepoint forcing it to only be edited in the web application.

  • Hi AD RMS - file monitoring:

    AD RMS cannot track who changed a file and what the change was.  RMS is an information protection technology so it can control who is able to open the file and what they are able to do with it.  So you can use RMS to prevent unauthorized users from opening a file and to restrict who can edit the file.  But it cannot report back to you on who changed what within a file.
