Upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 With MOSS 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have MOSS 2007 SP1 databases in SQL Server 2005 EE x64 with SP3. Now, we want to upgrade the SQL Server 2005 to SQL server 2008 R2 EE x64 RTM version or with latest patchset.

Does MOSS 2007 Support SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM version? If yes, share your thoughts and if possible share authentic (MS) link where I can find this information.

    Thanks
    Irfan Ahmad

"Office SharePoint Server 2007 supports SQL Server 2008. However, you must install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 or later and Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 or later in order to use SQL Server 2008. Office SharePoint Server 2007 also supports SQL Server 2008 R2. Ensure that you have installed Office SharePoint Server 2007 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later."

  • SQL server 2005 Express edition can be upgraded to SQL server 2008 Express edition. But SQL server 2005 full version cannot be upgraded to sql server 2008 express edition. SQL server 2005 full version can only be upgrade to full version which is standard or enterprise

Articles always says you need SQL server 2005 or above which means 2008 will work.

Additional below article has reference for SQL server 2008 and SP 2007

Reporting Services can run on a broader range of SharePoint products and technologies than Analysis Services. You can deploy a report server in any standalone SharePoint server or server farm that is based on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or later, or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or later.

  • Sorry for this correction: I will deploy 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition(x64) in replacement of 2005 Enterprise Edition(x64).

Please share more and also share your thoughts if you have implemented ever. Thanks
