Windows 7 SP1 RC1 failed installation (x64 Home Premium) after SP1 Beta uninstall RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 7 Home Prem x64 clean installation, no 3rd party firewall.

I was running RC1 Beta just fine, uninstalled to install RC1 and keep going around in circles with the following error...

RC1 install tell me to download and Run the system readiness tool, which I've done umpteen times now.

Windows Updates failes to install the folowing 2 updates.

KB2387149 & KB2249857 error codes stated as follows, Code 80073712 andCode 800B0100 (get help with these errors tells me to run the system readiness tool).

Code 800B0100 is the same error I get from the SP1 RC 1 installation. More details say it's atrust_e_nosignature (0x800b0100) error. searching for that mostly leats to Vista fixed and a check of the vbscript.dll which is the latest and correct version.

I've done a sfc /scannow and found no issues.

I don't have norton's or mcafee installed (ESET NOD32 - enabled and disabled).

I have no restore points going back far enough (pre sp1 beta) to revert to either.

  • Download the update and use expand [1] to extract the MSU and cab file.

Now override the damaged cat and mum files. Do the same for the update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2387149 and override the manifest files.

    best regards

  • downloaded the x64 windows 7 KB2249857 patch, copied the cat, mum and manifest files to the required directories and re-run system readiness tool.

    Found - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee619779%28WS.10%29.aspx

    copied files to the %windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\

    and re-run system readiness tool.

    thanks,

where do I source those files? from the installation CD? So far the only resource I've found seems to be a fix relating to ie8 in windows 7 beta - kb962921, which does seem like a good idea.

    2nd part, destination folder?

having a stab at - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 - aggresive mode too. (edit: no change)

or install ie9 Beta hope that solves the issue?
