Cannot Change the Start Date of a Task after Resource has Reported Time to it RRS feed

  • Question

  • My company uses Project Server 2010.  I would like to change the start date of a task on my project plan but after a resource has reported time to the task I cannot.  Why is this?  Am I doing something wrong?

  • Hi,

It might be that the actual are forced to come from the task updates/timesheet (this is an option in the task settings in the PWA server settings). Thus as soon as a resource has reported actual time which has been approved against the project, then this actual cannot be moved/changed/removed in MS Project Pro, since actuals are protected.

If you do need to change the actual, ask the resource to recall his timesheet.

If you want to keep the actuals as is and just move backward the start date, you can use the task usage and manually enter work in the timephased grid (right part of the screen) and the start date will be adjusted accordingly.

    Hope this helps,
