  • Hi All,

    I am trying to install Windows update on Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3172614) unable to install, instalation failing. could you please help me on this.

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 800F0831

  • As an initial troubleshooting step, kindly download and run the troubleshooter for Windows Updates. To do so, please follow the steps below:

    1. Download the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and then select Open or Save in the pop-up window.
      • Note: If you select Save, you need to go to the folder where the troubleshooter is downloaded to after the download is complete, and then double-click the latest wu.diagcab file to run the troubleshooter.
    2. Select Next and then follow the steps in the wizard to find and fix problems with Windows Update.

  • Hi Ramana,
       

    When you try to install a Windows update, especially a cumulative update, the presence of 0x800f0831 usually means the package for which the manifest is missing. Please consider referring to Microsoft article first: "Error 0x800f0831 when you install an update", it mentioned the method of confirming missing packages with CBS.log and then reinstalling.
       

    The reference article provided by Udara is also very applicable, please also refer to the use.
