SCVMM requirement RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have about the 7 hosts.  I am going to set up SCVMM server.  Should I place it on the seperate physical box than the host or inside VM?  Does it require the hardware virtulization in the BIOS?

    Thank you.

  • SCVMM simply requires Server 2008 x64 or Server 2008 R2 (x64 only)
    (SCVMM v1 requires 2008, SCVMM R2 requires 2008 R2)

It can be run in a VM, it can be run on standalone hardware.
You will get the best performance on hardware.
This would matter if you were scaling to a large number of managed hosts (and therefore VMs)

Hardware virtualization in the BIOS is only required for Hyper-V - and there is no requirement nor recommendation for adding the Hyper-V Role to an SCVMM Server.
