Sec Settings Windows Server 2008 SP 2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 need i both of them? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Need i install on a Windows Server 2008 R2 both Security Setting packages (WinServer2008SP2 and WinServer2008R2) or only the settings for Win saerver 2008R2?

I ask, because i missed several settings in the Security Settings from R2 (like MS Update Settings)

    Greetings

  • You should only apply the Windows Server 2008 R2 settings to your Windows Server 2008 R2 computers. You can use the "Setting Pack" inlcuded with the WS08-R2 baselines to add addtional settings to your custom baselines... the setting pack contains the Windows Update settings that apply to WS08-R2.

While the WS08 SP2 baselines contain Windows Update settings, none of these settings are configured... you need to review and configure them to meet the needs of your environment.

  • Thanks for answering this Jofer! :) We intend to make this MUCH simpler in the SCM v2 Beta. Hang in there with us - it is going to get better! Watch the blog for updates on the Beta timeline and new features.
