Moving to new DB server and CLICONFG RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been tasked with moving our SQL2008 databases to a SQL2012 server.

I've moved dbs to a new DB server before, but in MOSS 2007, and from SQL2005 to SQL2005.

We copied the databases over, and used cliconfg.exe to create an alias to the new server name. This was Microsoft's recommended method.

Same case now? Is this still the recommended method?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Yes. Ideally you set your SharePoint environment up to use an Alias from the start to make the system more consistent through upgrades.

You'll also need to be on SP1 to use SQL 2012.

  • Thanks Alex.

Does the SP1 apply to Sharepoint or SQL?
