  • Question

  • Hi Folks

I'm new in DPM and I have some question about that :)

1 - I have 3 sites in different countries, what's the better scenario for Storage Pool !? Per example, I can administered every site from one console and one Storage Pool (considering that bandwidth network is poor) or I can have different Storage Pool (one per country) but one console !?

2 - I can backup and restore AD DS with DPM !?

    Thx,

  • Hi.

    There are a few options.

You can protect the servers from the main location , this will have the lowest cost but also will be slow to protect and recover over the site link

Another option is the have a DPM server installled on each location with local storage , this will enable fast backup/recovery

If you then want to the data protected on the central site you can use DPM to DPM protection and copy the backup data from the remote site to the central site

You have a central console so you can log on to each console but there is no integration directly so you need to "change" dpm server to manage something on a named server , using the SCOM integration helps on this as the console will open the server directly

For AD DS , DPM backups the system state there is no item level recovery for AD DS they rely on AD for that , so its a full backup
