File Explorer Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Every time I open File Explorer my PC starts searching for phantom USB drives that do not exist. It flashes from E: to F: to G: to H: like its looking for something, but there is no flash drive inserted into any of the PC's USB ports. Also, it will open and close multiple File Explorer windows all on its own. Whatever is going on has slowed performance on my PC and when a flash drive is inserted the PC has difficulty reading from it.

I'm running Windows Server 2016 because I'm an IT student, and I've reinstalled once already. It ran fine for a day and now the problem has returned. My hardware seems to be fine but I'm baffled by this problem. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!
