Migration from Windows Server 2008 R2 running Data Protection Manager 2012R2 to Windows Server 2016 running Data Protection Manager 2012R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good afternoon,

    I am looking to migrate our current DPM setup to a newer operating system. I gather that I must take a backup of the database, is this via the SQL management studio? If anybody is able to guide me through this process, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Current OS: Server 2008

    Services DPM 2012R2 and Hyper-V

    MIGRATE TO -->

    OS: Windows Server 2016

    Services: DPM 2012R2 and Hyper-V

  • Hi,

    Unfortunately DPM 2012 R2 is not supported on Windows Server 2016, you will either have to upgrade your DPM 2012 R2 to DPM 2016 or DPM2019 to be able to run it on Windows Server 2016.

    If upgrading DPM isn’t an option, and since Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 is EOL (End-of-Life) soon, you could consider migrating to Windows Server 2012 R2 instead.

    Best regards,
    Leon
