Can Bitlocker encrypt an individual file? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are transitioning over from PGP to BitLocker in my office and one of the considerations is whether or not bitlocker can encrypt an individual file to send it securely via outlook to one of our clients.

  • No it cant, bitlocker is drive encryption, not file encryption.

For file transfer you should probably stick with PGP. For system/storage encryption you should use bitlocker, unless you need the data to be only decrypted when in use then you should use PGP.

Bitlocker and PGP both encrypt data but are used for different purposes.
