Windows Update no longer working after new HD install. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I recently put a new seagate HD in my ASUS notebook - from 500GB to 750GB. Running W7 professional x64

Windows now reports that I have a non genuine copy (via online validation - tried to fix there but it wants me to buy a new copy!) and as I mentioned updates have not been working.

    So far I have:

    Ran SFC /scannow (admin)

Ran the Mr fixit utility from microsoft.com

Tried to rebuild the datastore folder.

Tried this to reset windows update components...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Manually stopped the wuauserv and started again manually.

    Tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414

Also checked the issue on larger 500GB+ WD HD's where a new Intel driver needs to be installed as it can cause this problem.

My drivers appear fine after checking Intel and seagate.

    All to no avail..

The error I get is the 0xC8000247

I have contacted Microsoft support who want me to get a Windows install disk from my vendor, contacted my vendor who will not supply one as they said I could do a system restore.

Here is the last few lines from my Windows update log file:

  • OK Fixed!

Problem is that with the new HD apparently seagate use a auto alignment utility built into the firmware.

I also read that a fix was to upgrade to this http://tinyurl.com/4pxp2pn from HP.

I was a bit reluctant as it was for a HP notebook; but it uses the same sort of Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver

    VERSION: 9.5.6.1001

(mine was only 9.2.0.1030....you need to use this updated file)

Also use this as a guide...a REAL GOOD READ!!

Thanks to mowgreen and tom6455 for the info..

    Thanks and mark fixed please!
