Moving Exchange 2010 to new Office

Question
-
I know there is not Exchange 2010 forum but I hope someone can assist.
We are moving our corporate office and need to shutdown exchange 2010. Here is the environment.
- Corporate Site
- Exchange 2010 CAS (total 3 servers)
- Exchange 2010 HUB (total 3 servers, #1 is the File Share Witness)
- Exchange 2010 Mailbox (total 3 servers)
- External SPAM Filter Appliance is Edge for all other domains
- External Appliance is the CAS Array for this site.
- DR Site
- Exchange 2010 CAS (total 3 servers)
- Exchange 2010 HUB (total 3 servers)
- Exchange 2010 Mailbox (total 3 servers
- External SPAM Filter Appliance is Edge for all other domains
- External Appliance is the CAS Array for this site.
- Mailbox Databases
- Total Databases (17 including Public Folder)
- MB1 = 6 Active Databases, some passive (public folder database resides here)
- MB2 = 6 Active Databases, some passive
- MB3 = 5 Active Databases, some passive
- DR Site has pretty much same spread of databases.
- DAG
- Split between two sites. All 6 Mailbox Servers are part of the DAG. Corporate site has Active and many passive copies. DR site only has Passive Copies, split across the three MB servers.
Question, we are going to shut down Corporate on Friday at 5pm to move all servers (Virtual by the way) to the new Corporate Office. What is the proper procedure? I do not want Databases to fail over to DR site. I do not want DR site to operate while we are moving servers. New Corporate office will have same IP Address ranges for the Servers.
I have read a bunch of posts on this site as well as others, but not everyone has such a robust Exchange Environment as we do and I am afraid that once systems are moved to the new Corporate site, the databases will not mount or become corrupted.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

so first thing first you need to shutdown the DR server first.
There is a script in exchange dir $Exscripts
checkout these two articles for step by step
http://www.mikepfeiffer.net/2010/08/performing-maintenance-on-dag-members-in-exchange-2010-sp1/
http://eightwone.com/2011/04/13/updating-exchange-2010-sp1-dag-members/
first run the maintenance script on DR MBX Server - the shutdown the HUB and CAS
then on the MB2, MB3 -- assuming MB1 is the primary -- coz primary will be the one you want bring down very last.
Now shutdown the last server.
then HUB and CAS.
Bring all the server in the same order,, Start the CAS then HUB and then MB1-- making sure AD is up and running
hope that helps

Good question. We have that ability, and use it when we need to modify a host. But for this Friday, we need to move the 6 host servers and the 6 SAN's at the same time. (switches, etc) All Hosts use the same 6 SANs, all iSCSI 10GB.
This Friday we are moving all the virtual servers to the new office. (last Friday we moved all the physical)
My concern at this time is Exchange 2010 and what is the best procedure to turn off Corporate Exchange and then turn it back on in the new Office. I don't want to fail over to the DR site if at all possible. There is a DC at the new office and the IP Addresses will follow the servers.
The ip addresses at the existing corporate office and the new office are all part of the same Active Directory Site.
I think the process will take about 5 hours between turning off all Virtual Servers, moving the equipment to the new office, racking and turning on the equipment.

I think you are looking for a shutdown process?
First you must make sure that DAC Mode is enabled for the DR site, and if not then DR will kick off.
2nd - you need to follow the procedure for DAG Maintenance. If this is what you are looking for ?, let us know and will let you know the process.

Hi,
According to your description, you want to move Exchange server to a new location in the corporate site without failover to DR site.
In this case, you can refer to the following article to move Exchange server:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/155216
To avoid failover to DR site, we can set the property DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy to IntrasiteOnly in the Exchange servers of DR site:
Set-MailboxServer -Identity EXDR02 -DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy IntrasiteOnly

What we are going to be doing is physicaly moving six hosts and six sans from one building to another building 50 miles away. Once there we will bring those hosts and sans back online. The new office ip address scheme is already part of the same ad site as the soon to be disconnected current office. I need to shut down exchange at the main office and then bring up in the new office. I do not want to do anything with the DR site. I have already modified each database IntraSite Only so that is good. I jst need to know the proper procedures to shut down exchange and then the proper procedures to bring it back up againThursday, May 29, 2014 10:51 AM

It sounds to me that you are correct, a correct process for shutdown is what I ultimately need to do. Do you have or know where I can get the step-by-step instructions? And DAC mode has been enabled.Thursday, May 29, 2014 12:49 PM
