  • If I understand you properly, you want to remove some of the fields. If so, right-click on the word Name at the top of the screen and tick or remove the tick from the fields you want displayed/not displayed.

  • No, for example, when i select one file, i want only the name to be selected. No size, no file type, no date modified...., only first column Maybe this two links would better explain. It's vista fix, but doesnt work on windows 7

  • Oh, I follow you now.

Your second link states that the registry change works for Windows 7. All I can suggest is you double-check your typing?

  • Doesnt work. You have batch script to download, and after applying doesnt change anything. Can somebody else try?

  • Rather than run the script, try typing the changes yourself.

Alternatively, download the script, unzip it, open it with Notepad and check that the contents (names of keys) correspond to the names on the website.

I agree, I also ran the proposed scripts AND tried making the changes manually, logging out after each attempt.  This dosn't work on my setup, either (Win7 HP 64-bit).

Does anyone else have any other methods?

    Thanks in advance.

  • this modification can be made in explorerframe.dll .Exept the parameters of code that must be add, needed also 2 modifications of 2 images in mstyle[because i have not done this the image looks having 2 different backgrounds 1.where is the image, and 2. where is the first text].

i use the 32 bit freeware rc version of win 7  so i dont know if my method works ok to the rtm one,  hope yes but your question must be answered from microsoft team.[also such this code modifications made not working the clasic them of win7 as i have seen]

[if i found a different method, a more simple version of this [with no need any image modification and perchaps no new code lines, or at least just replace or delete some]  and works, i will give u results, though its not so simple and also i am pressed from time as i do my projects.but best is microsoft give answers to such questions]

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 --- WORKING.

    Thanks a lot.
    I altered the one in

I don't know if I really had to do both, but it's working.

    Useful tips:
--Boot your computer using a Linux live CD (I used Ubuntu) for any operations that you can't do in Windows (like files-locked/permission-denied).
--Resource Hacker can not open x64 binaries, so I used a program called "Restorator" on the ExplorerFrame.dll from System32.

Clicking on ANY text in a colum (EXAMPLE: "37,416 KB" in the "size" column) has the old behavior (acts like I'm dragging from the "Name" column), but any area without text (like the white space directly in front of "37,416 KB") lets me select multiple files by dragging. Regardless -- the blue rectangle only ever highlights the "Name" column.

I can use drag-select if I start dragging from the very thin white space on the left side of the first column, or the "no-name" final column. This may have been possible before I did the hacking.

  • lee321987,  glad to here it works for you.

off the topic i have to just say what i do when i do my modifications in code, though this is not an example for the others, and also i add some informations about.

    1. i use 32bit RTM WIN 7 at this moment. FOR  a 64 bit version perchaps you can use also a freeware version of Resourse hacker special for 64 bit systems made , download from   http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/    (named ---->'One off update - 19 December 2009 (version 3.5.2 beta)')
i also use Restorator but to other kind of modifications. i usually reffer to resourse hacker for the users as it is freeware[and also there some things that even with restorator can not be].

    2. because i make many experiments on code i have devided my hard disk [using me also a freeware linux version] and then i have installed in 2 different sections windows 7 rtm.  So in any explorer crashed , because of my experiments/ changes in code, i go to the Windows 7, part that works and replace the file of the other part, replacing with the last file that worked ok.

    3. before replacing files go to  Control pane [view by category] -->so Go to   Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts  and press the folder 'Change User Account Control Settings'  set the slider to the next window Never Notify.  restart.  do all your changes in code that u want. then again  go to Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts  and press the folder 'Change User Account Control Settings'  set the slider to the next window to Default or to whatever u like,  then restart.

******* To my Experiments  : what i do now is just make our windows world not only to look but to 'work' in some parts of the code like osx, for example we can have a folder as ico or as details or as content, or as Tiles to look similar to mac style when mouse pressed selected folders, and i hope after solve some things, this month to give a realease for the users . Perchaps, its first time in the world of the windows [without using a 3rd party programm or explorer replacement] to have osx 'working' style.
Have a look those you are interesting   http://zeusosx.deviantart.com/art/ZEUS-mac-os-X-for-Windows-7-152776647  *******
