Microsoft Backup Verification Failed RRS feed

    I have been using the Backup in System Tools for many years and have
    never gotten any problems. But in my last two backups, both
    Verification process were failed and under "Backup Status", it said
    "FAILED". In the Backup Report, there were a couple of files that
    couldn't be backup with the error "It's either corrupted or not
    existed" and were skipped.

    I looked at the backup file and it seems to have the total size of
    backup like those I have in the past. And when I clicked on it, the
    Backup Restore Wizard came on. Could someone please tell me what could
    be the problems. The files that showed corrupted have been in my drive
    for a long time and haven't been modified at all. So I know they were
    not corrupted and do exist. And the backup file I have, is it a good
    one or it couldn't be used to restore if my drive failed?

    Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

    FYI, I am using Windows XP SP3.

    Open a command prompt and type:

    chkdsk /f  /r <Enter>

    It will say "A disk check could not be performed now, would you like to schedule....?"  Press Y for Yes.

    Exit the command prompt and restart your computer.  It will say "A disk check has been scheduled, press any key to abort" or something like that.  Do NOT press any key, let it do a disk check.

    Then try your backup again.

    Thank you for your response. I already did the disk check and it didn't find any problems. And I also did another backup and again, verification failed. But my backup file still showed almost the same GBs as my old ones.
