SCCM Client Push installs error out, Installation failed with error code 1603 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have SCCM running in  mixed mode. When trying to use the automated detect and client push installation, the install fails.  In the ccmsetup.log, this error is listed

MSI: Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances. The error code is 80004005

Installation failed with error code 1603.

i've compared the clientmsi.log on successfully installed PCs and failed installed PCs and they are the same. The only difference is that at the end of the successfull returns 0 and the failed machine returns 1603.  The successfull install was done manually with switches to specify the install parameters. None of the machines install successfully using the client push method.  The SCCM account used in part of the administrators group, and the same parameters specified for the manual install are the same ones specified in the properties of the client push install.  All of the the machines are detected by heartbeat, network, or system discovery, but none of them get the the client installed.

  • Atl.dll file may cause the issue, you can try the following steps on a computer to test it.

    1. Run “c:\windows\system32\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe /uninstall” to clean up the client.
    2. Run “regsvr32.exe atl.dll” from run window to register this dll.
    3. Deleted all the files in ccmsetup directory except the ccmsetup.exe file.
    4. Run ccmsetup.exe to install the client.

    Does it work?
