Recieving over 15,000 messages from sharepoint alerts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using WSS 3.0

I currently have a live production list made for tracking certain actions in my company.  In that list I have

    • A Pentalogic web-part that sends email reminders to "Assigned To" users  (Sends Email)
    • Various Alerts  (Sends Email)
    • Workflow that adjusts dates when statuses change

This morning I got an email from someone saying that they have over 9,000 messages that are coming from sharepoint@companyname.com

We are NOT using the Portal Server to send SMTP.  We are using our own SMTP server for outgoing mail.

    • I have shut down the emails by using a spam blocker for now, but I'm currently trying to clear the mail queue.
    • I looked in the c:\inetpub\mailroot\queue folder and it is empty.
    • I disabled the SMTP services.
    • I restarted the entire SharePoint server.

I am still blocking emails though!  How do I somehow clear the queue?

  • Try running stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs on WFE .It should force timer job to execute and clear the queue.

    Thanks, GeeVed

  • OK.  I stopped receiving emails from the spam blocker.  This is what I did:

    • ran the command stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs
    • stopped Windows SharePoint Services Outgoing E-Mail
