How to log on to XP local machine when receiving error message "The system cannot log you on now because the domain <Domain Name> is unavailable." RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a computer that is on a domain any other time it is in used, but it was infected with malicious software so now I am tasked to remove said software.

I have the end-users login credentials which only show The system cannot log you on now because the domain <Domain Name> is unavailable. Booting in safe mode still produces an error message. I don't have the ability to retrieve the admin password (unless I just use one of the password reset disks I have.....hmm, but I don't even know if there is an admin account).

Is there a trick to this? Like with Windows Vista/7 how you can type local-pc\local-pc and then login?
