My Windows Server 2012 R2 server is not being offered KB4056895? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I see the following update in my WSUS Server:

    KB4056895 / 2018-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB4056895)

    But Windows Update (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update) is NOT offering me this update.

    Every other month I am offered that month's Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 R2.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hello,

    I suggest you check the following registry key:

    Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat" Value="cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc" Type="REG_DWORD”
    Data="0x00000000”

    Customers will not receive the January 2018 security updates (or any subsequent security updates) and will not be protected from security vulnerabilities unless their antivirus software vendor sets the following registry key:
    Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat" Value="cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc" Type="REG_DWORD”
    Data="0x00000000”

  • Manually downloading the update from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4056895 seems to have worked fine.

    Still no clue as to why Windows Update did not offer me this update, tho?

  • D'oh, I see now that

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4056895/windows-81-update-kb4056895

    "Microsoft has reports of some customers with AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing this KB.   To prevent this issue, Microsoft will temporarily pause Windows OS updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time."

    Though the server(s) in my network have Intel processors, not AMD.
