vista network adaptor problems RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • i am currently running a dell inspiron 1501 with windows vista. recently the wireless network adaptor has stopped registering  the networks  that i use (one at home and one at school), but it will still connect to the shared folder and printer at home and the printer at school. it also will not let me view a network path with the "network and sharing center". is this a hardware or software problem and what can i do to fix it?

    Hi haus,

Please determine if the computer is connecting via wireless and the other via wired network adapters simultaneity. Then disable all wired network adapters and check this issue. If it persists, let’s follow the steps closely in the below article to troubleshoot this issue:

How to connect to a wireless network in Windows Vista

At the same time, please contact Dell support for more information about this, I believe this will help to resolve all issues in an efficient manner.

  • it is actually connecting to the network but it doesnt let me view a network map or anything like that. it will also connect to the shared folder i have set up on my server and the printer on the same server. the links you posted didnt help any. it has never connected by ethernet. does this make any sense to  you? my norton antivirus also comes up and says that i am connected to a trusted network when i bring it out of sleep mode.

  • Hi haus,

    Thanks for your reply.

However, I am still not very sure about your meaning by "view a network map"? Can you explain more in detail or send me some screenshots indicating this? I appreciate your time and efforts.

Meanwhile, please also capture some screenshots about "the dependancy service or group failed to start" error you received.

    How to capture screenshot:
    ---------------------------
    1. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard when error message appears.
    2. Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.
    3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save".
    4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
    5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save".

Please send this saved JPEG file to us at:
    WCVDATA@microsoft.com <mailto:WCVDATA@microsoft.com>.
