Copy operation starts strong then slows to a crawl. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using Windows 7 Professional (32-bit).  Whenever I try a copy/paste from one HD to another it will start out strong (around 20-25Mb/sec or better) but within two or three minutes, it will slow to less than 2MB/sec.  Eventually, it will slow to less than 500K/sec.  Is there a reason for this?  One drive is an internal SATA and the other is an external USB (SATA).  I can stream video from the USB drive, but copy/paste (either way) will act in this manner.  Both drives are optimized: internal for 'write-cache' and the external for 'quick removal'.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi,

    1. Please try to copy from the file from one partition to anther partition to see whether you get the same issue.

    2. Try clean boot, in order to exclude 3rd party applications or services that may cause the problem.

    3. Test the issue in Safe Mode to check the result.

    4. If possible, please try the USB drive in other computers based on Windows 7.
