Instance is stopped for no apparent reason


  • We have one of our service instances that shows running but instance is stopped. We have not touched it, it just went down for no apparent reason.

    Please inform how to resolve this issue, it is in production!

  • It resolved itself after 5 minutes. I would like to know why my production site instance went offline with no reason or warning.

    It could be the instance was getting automatically upgraded to a new version of the underlying OS+PaaS. From memory this happens automatically and is automatically enabled on all new PaaS roles when you deploy them.

  • Luke has pointed out one potential cause. There can be other causes, such as the node hosting your instance is down, or your code contains a bug that crashes your service at certain point. In any case, the SLA for cloud service ( indicates you need at least 2 instances for each role in different fault and upgrade domain to get an 99.95% availability.
