Global document template for all Document Libraries/Lists? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We just created a docx file with custom header and footer, and would like to use this file as a default template for all the Document Libraries/Lists.  So when users click on the "New" button in any of the Document Libraries/Lists, this template will come up.

We have many Libraries and Lists, I don't want to go into each Library and List to change the location of the template.  So is there a global setting for this purpose?

  • Hi Arion,

To achieve this, you can try the following steps:

    1.       Go to Site Actions->Site Settings, in the Site Settings page, choose Site content types under Galleries.

    2.       In Site Content Type Gallery page, choose Document content type under Document Content Types(Document libraries use Document content type by default)

    3.       In Document content type settings page, click Advanced Settings, choose to upload a new document template, then upload your new document template, click OK.

Another considerable way is to create custom site content type with your template, then add the content type to your libraries separately, then you can create documents based on the new document content type and the default document content type.
