  •  DPM 2010 does not support using network share as a destination of backup data.  Does DPM 2012 support it?

  • Hi,

DPM uses VSS snapshots for maintaining recovery points, therefore a network share cannot be used.  Only block level storage (locally attached disk, Iscsi and fibre attached disk) can be used in the DPM storage pool.  USB and Firewire removable disks are not supported because Windows does not support them for Dynamic disks which DPM requires.

  • The thread is old but you may want to look at Firestreamer as a possible solution. You still need some sort of storage on DPM. You can use Firestreamer to emulate tapes onto any type of storage, shares or USB.  Pretty neat software.
