Start Menu Tile Icons dissapeared

    Question

  • We use WDS to push out images and then script on applications to install after the OS has been applied. We have found recently in trying to finalize our Win10 build, that all start menu icons go missing except for Edge. We ran some scripts to strip out a hand full of programs before we captured out Win10 image and put it in WDS to deploy and then ran a script that was said to disable these programs for all new network account users that login. These were the commands to remove programs:

    Get-AppxPackage *3dbuilder* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *zunevideo* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *solitairecollection* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *messaging* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *skypeapp* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *officehub* | Remove-AppxPackage

    Get-AppxPackage *windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage

After running these commands, we then ran this command that was advertised to make it so that no networked users that logged in after the build would get these programs:

    Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage –online

It seemed to work for a couple of days where apps that were not stripped out or GP'ed out, would show.

Problem now? All network accounts only see Microsoft Edge in the start icon area and nothing else.

Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?
