Increasing the Resource Throttling threshold for the web application and publish the projects and check the behavior.

  • Grüß Gott!

as Shiva Prasad wrote already this issue is related to the list item resource throttling.

So publishing a project will fail if the threshold is violated. (issue is still relevant now with Project Server 2013 and probably also Project Server 2016).

So if you have 5.001 documents in the shared documents library, publishing will fail. You could increase the throttling limit. Or you decide to create a  second library and move some of the documents to that library. Both libraries will show that they have no problem with the throttling threshold. But publishing will still fail claiming that the threshold is violated.

The reason for that is that Project Server does NOT count the items in the library. It counts the number of all items in libraries of a specific template. As all document libraries are from the same template, the elements are aggregated.

If you create your own library template you will achieve that the documents there will not be synced to Project Server. No queue jobs. But it is still based on template 101, counted by Project Server and publishing will fail.

    So only two options remain:

    • Create a real custom library template
    • Create a subweb and store your documents there.

    Hope this might help somebody.
