Change retention time does not free up space on disk RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am using DPM2012SP1 to make backups to disk. Now my disk is running out of space, so I have changed the retention time from 14 days to 7 days in the hope it would create some extra free space on my disk. But it does not make any difference.

Do I need to do some more?

    Thanks,

    Ramon

  • Hi Ramon,

That will not shrink the amount of allready allocated disk space. What you initially could do is to right click the protection Group and choose to modify the disk allocation. Click on the link that says shrink.

  • Hi Robert,

Thanks that did indeed freed up some space.

Although I hoped, changing the retention time from 14 to 7 days would give me some more space.

Or do I need to wait for 7 days to let the recovery points expire, and then shrink again?

    Regards,

    Ramon
