Actual Hours populating with planned hours RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working on Project Server 2007 with resource time being logged via PWA timesheet.

We had a project manager report that for last week, and last week only, many resources had actual work show up in project plans that matched the planned work. I know this is done when the PM changes the % complete on a task, but that is not the case here. A number of resources, but not all, have the odd hours pf planned work (like 1.92 hours per day) showing up as actual work just for this last week.

My advice was to zero out the actual hours then go to accepting actuals from the timesheets in PWA.

Any idea why this happens or how to prevent it?

  • Generally, it would only happen if:

    1) PM entered % Complete.  (Maybe accidentally on a summary task?)

    2) Resource entered Actuals, and the PM shifted planned work out.

I'd be inclined to think it's number 1.  How does the Baseline look?  Does it show the weird numbers as well?

  • I found out what happened. The PM used the wrond option when updating the project, choosing to update work as complete thru: rather than choosing to Reschedule Uncompleted Work After:.

So everything up to the status date gets messed up...

    Thanks for your help.
