Update files fail to download. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a 2008 R2 server running WSUS. Yesterday all of the sudden the WSUS will synchronize fine, but when it goes to download the update files after approval the updates fail to download. I am getting two errors in the event logs. The first error 10032 is server is failing to download some updates. The second error in the application log is 364 Content file download failed. Reason: File cert verification failure. I can see the WSUS download a temp file into the content folder, and the the temp file goes away and I get this error. This server has been working for years and just stopped yesterday. Nothing has changed other than last months Windows Updates were installed. Any advice is welcome.

  • Hello Laurence,

just a quick question because I did stumble upon this problem myself: Have you made sure that .NET 3.5 had been installed prior to the installation of KB4484071?

.NET 3.5 is a prerequisite for KB4484071, but unfortunately, the installer doesn't check for its presence. It will happily install, but WSUS will fail to work.

Should your server be missing .NET 3.5, try installing it and re-install KB4484071 afterwards.

  • Hi Laurence,

I noticed that your WSUS is running on Windows Server 2008 R2, so you need to check if this server has the SHA-2 Support update KB4484071 installed. Because Without applying this SHA-2 update, beginning July 2019, WSUS 3.0 SP2 (also called WSUS 3.2) will not be able to perform the necessary WSUS update tasks.

Reply back with the results would be happy to help.

  • Sadly adding these updates did not fix my issue. Any update from July is still not being downloaded. The original issue is still present.
