New SCCM 2012 / WSUS Installation (Co-exist w/ SCCM 2007 for Migration and WSUS) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings,

We are planning to migrate SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012.

Our current SCCM2007\WSUS is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server with the SCCM2007 database and WSUS database on a remote SQL Cluster.

The requirement is to install SCCM 2012\WSUS on a new server with the SCCM2012\WSUS database on the same database instance as SCCM2007\WSUS database on the remote SQL Cluster and have SCCM 2007 and SCCM 2012 co-exist.

On reading and doing a test installation run for SCCM2012, we can specified the SQL instance and a new database name for SCCM2012, so I don't think that would be an issue and should not have any conflict.  SCCM2012\WSUS installation will install with SUSDB as the default database name and will have a conflict w/ the current SCCM2007/WSUS database.

I am looking for guidance on the best approach to have our current SCCM2007\WSUS and new SCCM2012\WSUS installation to co-exist w/ the above requirements.  Our DBAs want us to install SCCM2012\WSUS to a development SQL cluster, do the migration, bring down SCCM2007\WSUS, and then move the SCCM2012\WSUS from development SQL cluster to the remote production SQL cluster.  I been looking for a better way of doing this and have read some articles but those articles seems to assume that the SCCM and WSUS database is local nothing about it being on a remote SQL cluster.    Many thanks in advance for any help and guidance.
