Migrating sharepoint site from old servers to new server setup (new wfe and sql) RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I must be missing some piece to this puzzle.

I am migrating my site content out of my development enviroment to a production setup (differences are going from openldap to active directory authentication) I have configured my new servers and got the admin console setup etc.

I have tried the stsadm backup from old site and restore to new site, the site/subsites did not populate, but the restore reported completed. So then i did an export import.  Same thing (with 1 error and a few warrnings, but said Import completed. But my site hierarchy does not show what the old site was (with 3-4 subsites). Just shows the default page template "My Site" and its blank.

Is there some step i am missing that i need to do?

  • Can you give us the exact commands you´re using to export/back-up the sites and the nature of the content that you´re moving, such as what customisations, or changes you´ve made.

  • First run

backup old site: stsadm.exe -o backup -url http://share27:5551 -filename c:\moss-backup.bak

restore new server: stsadm.exe -o restore -url http://moss-web:5551 -filename c:\moss-backup.bat -overwrite (created MySite application, copied .bak from old to new server)

Export: stsadm.exe -o export -url http://share27:5551/css-cdm -includeusersecurity -filename c:\moss-backup.cmp -nofilecompression

    Import: stsadm.exe -o import -url http://moss-web:5551/ -includeusersecurity -filename c:\moss-backup.cmp
