Can I STOP windows installer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows installer is trying to install roxio media manager, but there are some install files missing and the process gets hung up and will not complete.  How can I stop this installation since until it completes (which it never will) I cannot install or UNinstall other software?

  • I'll have a look at the links provided, but I forgot to mention that I am running XP and not vista... will that make a difference to success?

  • Disabling windows installer does not seem to stop it from still trying to install the program with the missing files.   I still cannot uninstall anything because the system tells me that there is another install in progress and that one must finish before any other can install or uninstall.   I want to ABORT the install "in progress" and can't seem to find any way to do that.  Suggestions please?

  • on the task manager look for the application, right click the application and select go to process. On the process right click and select the end process tree option. The installation will be terminated.

  • Yes, I know I can stop it that way... but it keeps restarting the install process on its own and ties up resources while it does that.  I'm trying to permanently end this particular install because it will NEVER complete this task since there are files necessary for the  program install that are missing.   I can't get it to complete and I can't stop it either!   No other program will install or UNinstall until this one gets "blown away".

  • strange program i must say...Either complete the installation and once it completes you can uninstall it or check for the start up items or temp files.
