windows 7 and vista compatibility RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am attempting to upgrade from vista to to windows 7. I spent 5 hours trying to figure out how to completely uninstall Google toolbar before 7 would let me upgrade. Then the upgrade started. When I returned to the laptop it had shut off and on reboot it said there was still a compatibility problem -  no explanation. I thought 7 was an improvement. I now have my doubts and new frustrations. Is there a way to completely confirm compatibility or find the way to fix the problems?

  • Hi Mark,

If we cannot do the upgrade thing, how about try a clean install? For files we can use Windows Easy Transfer to backup and restore to the new system.

If you still would like to try the upgrade, download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and run it to see if it can help us find the compatibility issue. Also you can disable third party startup and service items in MSCONFIG to test.
