setting contenteditable to false on a child element inside a contenteditable RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to make a noneditable region within a editable region. It seems that the child element can still be edited even though it has contenteditable been set to false. Tried this in IE8 and IE9 with the same results.

    <!doctype html>
    <html>
        <body>
            <div contenteditable="true" style="border:1px solid black">
                abc
                <div contenteditable="false" style="background-color: yellow">
                    noedit
                </div>
                xyz
            </div>
        </body>
    </html>

    Here is the live example:

    Any ideas how to make the child element NOT editable?
